What is business liability insurance (AVB)?

Business liability insurance (AVB) covers damages caused by you, your employees or products. This includes damage to others' property or personal injury. For example, an employee might accidentally damage an expensive painting while working at a client's location, or a fault in your product causes a fire that results in personal injury. This type of insurance is also known as commercial general liability (CGL) insurance.

Business liability insurance covers damage to property and people, e.g., you spill a cup of coffee over someone's laptop or a customer slips on your freshly-mopped floor. Professional liability insurance covers property damage resulting from professional mistakes for which you are liable, for example, you are an architect and an incorrect calculation halts construction, and the developer holds you liable for the resulting damages. Contact us as soon as possible. We are available by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on +31 55 579 7777. Our claims adjuster will assess the situation and whether you are liable. If necessary, our claims expert will visit you. They will assist you and answer any questions you have. We settle the claim on your behalf.
Business liability insurance is not required by law (in Dutch). You may be required to take out insurance in certain cases, for example, the trade association you are affiliated with or a client or supplier requires you to have it. Being insured gives clients greater assurance that a claim will be compensated.
The difference between business liability insurance and employers' liability insurance is that with employers' liability insurance, there is no legal hassle about liability. With Centraal Beheer's Good Employer Insurance (in Dutch), which you take out alongside our Business Liability Insurance, you insure most employer risks related to employee accidents in one go.
